Paint in Color of your Choice
Hot Glue Gun
One of our bloggers needed a gift for an upcoming wedding so we helped her create this adorable monogram. This DIY Farmhouse Monogram is perfect for home décor or for a wedding gift for your favorite newlyweds! Follow the steps below to create your own. Feel free to put your own spin on it to create a one of a kind piece!
Step 1: We started with a frame that had the chicken wire built in. You can find these at most craft stores. Next, we chose a mint/aqua paint color for our wooden letter. Painting the letter is the perfect way to add a pop of color into your home or to incorporate the couple’s wedding color.
Step 2: We wanted to give our frame a more rustic look by whitewashing the edges. To begin mix white paint with water and mix it together. How much water you add depends on the opacity of the paint you are going for. Less water leaves a denser darker white. Add more water for a light coat of color. We added more water because we wanted a light wash. Once you have your whitewash mixture ready begin applying coats to the frame. Again, how many coats of whitewash you add depends on the overall look you are going for. Let the coats completely dry before adding another until you’ve reached your desired stain. We applied 4-5 coats of whitewash.
Step 3: Our wooden letter came painted black. To paint over this, you must first sand off the top layer of paint. Once you have done that you may begin painting with your chosen color. We added 4-5 coats to ensure the black was completely covered. Make sure to paint the inner and outer edges of the letter as they will be visible when the project is done.
Step 4.Decorate the frame with flowers or ribbon. Use contrasting colors to your wooden letter to make the entire piece really pop!
Step 5: Using your hot glue gun, secure your wooden letter to the chicken wire. You could also attach the letter with wire or twine.
